SELF-DISCHARGING BULKCARRIER WILL HANDLE 3000 TONS/HOUR

The 73,800 t dw bulkcarrier Phosphore Conveyor is intended primarily for the transport of phosphate ore, iron ore and lime, although lighter ores and bulk cargoes can be handled. A single hold-conveyor system of advanced design has been fitted. The vessel is divided into nine cargo holds all with hopper bottoms falling away into the center line of hopper doors. A central tunnel under these and running through the double bottoms houses the single large hold conveyor. The conveyor carries cargo to the after part of the engineroom. The cargo is then shifted, via a short transfer conveyor in the after part of the machinery space, to an elevating conveyor which weighs the cargo as it moves it to the fore part of the upper bridge deck. At the bridge deck level the cargo falls into a collecting conveyor fitted athwartships and thence on to a shuttle conveyor capable of overside extension to as far as 14 meters. Principal particulars are given, with details of the general arrangement and cargo system.
