PLAN TO RATIONALIZE SWEDISH ENGINE-BUILDING
A proposal by I.Jung that the four major Swedish shipyards should form a limited engine-building company is summarized. It suggests that one engine shop, owned jointly by Gotaverken, Eriksbergs, Kockums and Uddevalla, should be situated in Gothenburg while the transport to Uddevalla and Malmo yards could be readily effected by sea. Manufacture under license of turbines should be concentrated at Kockums. All the propelling machinery required by the Swedish shipyards could be manufactured in a workshop approximately half the area of the total used today. Turbine and diesel engine production by Swedish yards is described and the outlook is considered.
