FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF AN LNG IMPORT TERMINAL AT STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.--VOL. 2

The escape of LNG into the atmosphere has been investigated under two sets of conditions: (1) 100,000 m to the 3rd power spilled on water instantaneously from the violent and complete rupture of an LNG tanker, and (2) the lid of a 900,000 bbl storage tank is removed accidentally allowing the LNG to evaporate slowly. For each case, the size of these spills and the time required for the vapor to reach the 5 percent flammability limit has been determined for several wind and weather conditions.
