PASSENGER FLOW AT DEPARTURE LOUNGES

Characteristics of passenger flows to departure lounges and into airplanes, boarding times, needed lounge capacities and numbers of airplane entry doors are the objectives of this study. Two analytical models for San Francisco International Airport are developed and applied to the Boeing 747 and SST airplanes. One model describes the flow to the departure lounge; the other describes the flow from the lounge into the airplane. Based on these models, relationsihips between loading times and space required for departure lounges, and number of entry doors needed, are determined for the 747 and SST.
