SPEED/FARE PREFERENCE ANALYSIS 747 VERSUS SST

Preliminary analyses have been done in order to estimate the split in the air travel market between airplanes flying faster and those offering lower fare. These analyses centered about data bearing on the fare/speed preferences of travelers as suggested by market surveys, by past practices and by discussions of corporate policies with comptrollers of various companies. The results suggest that in addition to speed and price differences, other factors must be of major importance. Some of the factors probably are airline public image and advertising, schedules and service, connecting service and frequency of schedules, and public awareness of the complete fare-schedule possibilities.
