A GENERAL CALCULATION OF THE STRUCTURAL LOADS ON A SHIP IN A SEAWAY
This paper presents a method for the approximate calculation of the loading imposed by a realistic seaway on a ship moving with arbitrary heading and speed. The loads are determined using what are felt to be the best presently available methods of ship hydrodynamics. The results are produced in a form which permits their direct introduction into finite-element analysis of the structure. The ultimate objective is the development of a coordinated program which combines the best techniques of load estimation with the most suitable methods of structural analysis in order to produce a realistic picture of the actual structural response of a ship at sea.
