AIRFIELD CAPACITY ANALYSIS

This report outlines a graphical method of analysis of airfield, performance capability relative to demand as a function of aircraft, airfield, traffic control and air route performance parameters. The approach taken in the analysis is to investigate the pertinent performance factors of each subsystem, with emphasis on the factors constituting major subsystem interfaces, and then expanding scope of the study, in successive steps by an investigation of subsystem interrelationships. The study method provides, to an approximation, visibility of fundamental subsystem performance parameter and subsystem interface relationships in terms of nominal values of the factors effecting overall system performance. The output is modified by superposition of random deviations about the nominal parameter values to establish a practical system capacity. A comparison of demand and capacity is then made to establish the value of given system configuration in terms of costs associated with operational delays. The second phase of the study translates conceptual into actual system implementations and estimates costs of alternate implementations. a comparison of modification costs with penalty costs due to insufficient capacity provides a measure of desirability of a given modification alternate.
