NORWEGIAN ALL-RADIAL GAS TURBINE
A/S Kongsberg Vapenfabrikk, of Kongsberg, Norway, is now in series production of 1600 bhp engines for generator and cargo pump drive. The KG 2-3 design has been planned for industrial ( static or mobile ) and marine duties, requiring marked ruggedness, reliability and simplicity in design. With a maximum output of 1700 bhp at 20 C ( 68 F ) inlet air temperature ( normal rating 1600 bhp ) the weight is 5500 lb ( 2495 kg ) and the overall dimensions 75 by 67 in. ( 1905 mm by 1702 mm by 2210 mm ). Specific fuel consumption is given as 15,750 Btu-hp-h ( 3975 kcal/hp-h ). Fuel may be either liquid ( diesel oil, kerosens ) or natural gas/ the exhaust gas temperature is 997 F ( 536 C ), with a gas flow of 23.6 lb/sec (10.7 kg/sec ). An unusual feature of the Kongsberg is that it can be obtained with its output shaft either horizontal or vertical according to the driven unit. A standard 1500-kva three-phase generator outfit with exciter and automatic voltage regulator is supplied on a common baseplate. Some details of the design and marine applications are given.
