ECONOMICAL GAS-FREEING SYSTEM FITTED
A new, simple and inexpensive system of gas freeing designed by Camat International Transportation Consultants of Montreal displaces hydrocarbon vapor from the bottom of the tank while maintaining the stratification of over rich, explosive, and over lean gas. The vapors are drawn into gas extraction manifold running fore and aft along the top of the main transverse members at the tank bottom which leads into the cargo oil system. Steam-jet eductors connected at the deck level to the cargo oil piping provide suction. Details are given for the design and testing of the system, and its installation aboard a 227,500-dwt tanker.
