SHORTENING THE TAKEOFF AND LANDING DISTANCES OF HIGH-SPEED AIRCRAFT

This paper examines some of the fundamental relationships involved in shortening the takeoff and landing distances of high speed aircraft. The objective of the paper is to demonstrate some of the compromises that must be made to achieve short field lengths and to point out areas where further work in aerodynamics and propulsion systems may be fruitful.
