COLLISION AVOIDANCE RADAR BRAKING SYSTEM INVESTIGATION (PHASE I)

The subject areas receiving special attention in the study, were: (1) identification and analysis of the manner in which driver, driving environment, and vehicle characteristics in conjunction with radar braking objectives, affect the requirements of the system, (2) characterization of the subsystems of the radar braking concepts as to the function, tradeoffs, alternative implementation, and technology limitations, (3) appraisal of the current state-of-the-art in radar braking techniques and systems, (4) generation of candidate braking systems and radar techniques, and (5) analysis of accident statistics to determine the relative benefits of the candidate system configurations.
