INTERNATIONAL OIL TANKER AND TERMINAL SAFETY GUIDE
The International Oil Tanker Terminal Safety Group (I.O.T.T.S.G.) was formed in 1966, composed of representatives of international operators of oil terminals and tankers. The purpose was to co-operate in the development and production of a Safety Guide of recommended safe practices in loading, discharging and related operations at bulk oil tanker terminals, to give guidance to operators of both terminals and tankers in the safe handling of crude oil and petroleum products and to accentuate the need for understanding and co-operation between terminal and tanker personnel in the mutual interest of safe and efficient operations. In the text of the Safety Guide, guidance is given together with some explanation where appropriate. Some items require more background and detailed knowledge for a proper understanding of the safety principles involved and where this has been considered necessary an Appendix has been included. For similar operations and conditions, the contents of this I.O.T.T.S.G. Safety Guide are compatible with the recommendations contained in the Tanker Safety Guide (Petroleum) issued by the International Chamber of Shipping.
