ANALYSIS AND MANAGEMENT OF A PIPELINE SAFETY INFORMATION SYSTEM
This report is concerned primarily with the statistical analysis of data collected by the office of Pipeline Safety for the calendar years of 1970-73. The data processing and data system management activities performed for the period of April 1973 through November 1974 are also described. The statistical analysis of data provides information on the effects of many parameters on pipeline leaks and/or safety. These parameters include type of material used for pipeline construction, age of pipeline, diameter of pipeline, method of protecting pipeline from corrosion, failure of pipeline produced by digging equipment, and other similar parameters. The conclusions which can be drawn concerning the effects of each parameter on pipeline leaks and/or safety are presented. In addition, recommendations for changes which should be made in future data reporting and the methods of analysis to be employed by OPS personnel are presented. /DOT/
