BRITISH PATENT SPECIFICATION NO. 1,171,490. CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION AND ROADWAYS

The patent describes a method of reinforced concrete road construction that is claimed to be able to withstand cracking, spalling and can transmit heavy wheel loads to the substratum. The construction consists of a layer of concrete on which is laid a further layer containing closely spaced straight wire elements, the spacing being not greater than 0.5 in. It is claimed that the inclusion of the wires gives the concrete surface layer increased strength and fatigue life. /IRRD/
