MEASUREMENT OF DENSITY OF THIN ASPHALT LAYERS BY BACKSCATTERING OF AM 241 GAMMA RADIATION
The measurement of density by surface gamma backscattering gauges is now common. The usually available gauge is designed for use on soils, and measures the density of material up to depths reported to be of the order of 8 cm. In this case, it was required that the depth measured should be of the order of 2.5 cm. This report describes the development, design and calibration of a gauge which measures density only to this depth. /TRRL/
