THE MEASUREMENT OF PAVEMENT SURFACE RATING FOR THE NATIONAL PRIMARY ROUTES

This report considers the problems of measuring the riding quality of road surfaces. It reviews some instruments currently available to investigate this property and describes the PCA meter in some detail. It examines the performance of the PCA meter in relation to repeatability, test speed and load carried where the meter was fitted to a popular saloon car. It describes a correlation exercise between a subjective rating survey on a large network and a survey on the same network using the PCA meter. /TRRL/
