Alsthom-Atlantique has delivered the first four of its order of 150 rapid transit cars for Bay Area Rapid Transit. These cab cars, unlike their original Rohr-built counterparts, have flat ends and may be operated at intermediate positions within a train to simplify changing of train lengths and to permit BART to run more trains when its computer system is refined. The aluminum vehicles feature chopper controls. Much attention has been given to fire resistant construction after problems with BART's original 450 cars.
