PROVISION FOR THE HANDICAPPED. DISABLED ON TYNE AND WEAR

For a relatively modest percentage increase in the capital cost, metro has been built to accommodate a wide range of disabled passengers, although in some cases with considerable additional constructions at stations. Good design has enabled facilities for the majority of passengers to be of benefit to the ambulatory handicapped and disabled; whilst special facilities for wheelchair users have been of an advantage to others, particularly mothers with prams. The County Council is responsible for fares policy and operates an extensive concessionary fares scheme.
