ANALYTICAL STUDY OF FATAL ACCIDENTS ON SUPER HIGHWAY-2. SUPPORTING STUDIES
A comparative study of the fatal accidents on the Pakistan Super Highway during the period 1972-1982 occurring within the ranges of the five police stations shows that Gadap section has the highest number of fatal accidents perr year followed by Thano B.K., Jamshoro, Jherruk and Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gadap and Jamshoro sections is 0.3 and for Thano B.K. and Jherruk section is 0.2. Trucks are the most hit-vehicles on the Super Highway involved in 48% of the fatal accidents. The road user is blamed to 98% of the fatal accidents, 0.6% to road and environment, 0.6% to vehicle defects and 1.0% to unknown causes. The pedestrains are involved in the highest number of fatal accidents (29%), followed by overtaking and headon collisions (13%), overspeeding, and rash driving (11%), crashes with raodside vehicle (10%), careless driving (9%), overturning of vehicles (6%) and other causes (7%).
