PROGRESSIVE RELIABILITY OF A STRAIN- SOFTENING SLOPE

This paper is concerned with progressive change in the stability of a slope in strain-softening soil. Attention is focussed on the assessment of slope reliability within a probabilistic framework. Peak and residual shear strength parameters and the pore pressure ratio are regarded as random variables. Results are presented for three example problems considering progress of strain-softening either from the toe of a slope or from its crest. (Author/TRRL)
