STRUCTURAL PROPERTIES OF RECYCLED MIXES

This paper presents the results of an investigation into the structural properties of an asphalt mix containing reclaimed material. A specific mix was chosen from BS594. Various quantities of reclaimed material from two different sources were combined with two different softening agents and appropriate quantities of new material to produce the selected BS594 formulation. The material was assessed by means of dynamic stiffness and creep tests. Comparisons with the same formulation containing no reclaimed material indicated that for all practical purposes mixes containing reclaimed material have identical performance. This paper should be read in conjunction with the paper "Bitumen Recovered from Highways and its use in Recycled Mixex" by the author, published in "Highways and Transportation", May 1985, pp 12-16.
