GRANULATED CONCRETE AND BRICKWORK RUBBLE AS UNBOUND STONE ROADBASE MATERIAL

GRANULAAT BETON- EN METSELWERKPUIN ALS ONGEBONDEN STEENFUNDERINGS-MATERIAAL

Building and demolition rubble have principally been used as unbound stone roadbase material, among which concrete and brickwork rubble are particularly important. It is however of great importance to set up standards for rubble granulates with a guaranteed minumum quality. The authors discuss several aspects which are important in determining such permissible mixtures, namely the functioning of a stone roadbase, the mechanical behaviour of the components, the possibilities of quality control and evaluation and the properties of the granulates. Draft standards for granulates of concrete and brickwork rubble are also given. The authors conclude that it is justified to use granulates from building and demolition rubble as unbound stone roadbase material. (TRRL)
