U.S.STILL ON FAR HORIZON FOR JAPANESE BUS BUILDERS
Japan has not entered the transit bus market in the U.S. as have European manufacturers, although Isuzu does ship chasses to five U.S. body builders. Japan's export market has primarily been Southeast Asia, the Middle East and China, all of which are currently importing either completely assembled buses or so-called knocked-down (KD) models for local assembly, a process sometimes required by legislation in different countries. The article provides profiles of major transit bus makers and of one specialized body builder.
