In 1963, the International Union of Railways set up a special committee within the Office for Research and Experiments to examine all aspects of the railway noise problems. The research carried out by specialists from a large number of UIC member countries made available a wealth of information on the noise situation, from which we were able to deduce principles for the design of new rolling stock and methods for correcting and improving existing stock.
