THE SAFE CARRIAGE OF PETROLEUM AND HAZARDOUS LIQUIDS BY ROAD TANKERS CONSTRUCTED OF DOUBLE WALL FIBRE REINFORCED PLASTICS

A new design of fibre reinforced plastic road tanker has been produced to improve both the carrying capacity and safety when transporting petroleum and other hazardous liquids. It is of a double wall sandwich construction with an inner core of semi-rigid shock absorbing polyurethane foam. Details are presented of the variety of tests which have been conducted in order to prove and establish the concept and type of construction. The many advantages of the design and of the materials used are described together with the progress in the method of manufacture. (Author/TRRL)
