ALCOHOL INVOLVEMENT IN TEXAS DRIVER FATALITIES: ACCIDENT REPORTS VS BLOOD ALCOHOL CONCENTRATION

The Traffic Safety Section of the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation contracted with the Accident Analysis Division of TTI to conduct a study of BAC test results on driver fatalities in Texas. The main objective of this study is to compare the BAC test results from medical examiners' findings with the investigating officers' conclusion of alcohol as a contributing factor according to the accident reports. One of the products of this research is an ongoing automated data source of BAC test results for future reference and study.
