SPEEDS IN RURAL ROAD TRAFFIC. ADAPTION TO GENERAL SPEED LIMITS
HASTIGHETER I LANDSVAEGSTRAFIK. ANPASSNING TILL SKYLTAD HASTIGHET
The adoption during recent years of general speed limits (70, 90 and 110 km/h) on rural roads has been studied on data from 353 different 24-hour spot speed measurements made in 1979-1982 at 92 sites on straight and level road sections. By adding old results, the speed trends for cars since 1950 have been examined for the period without speed limits, ie 1950-1967, and for the period following the introduction of general speed limits, ie 1967-1982. The measurements from 1979-1982 have been analysed regarding the proportion of cars with speed exceeding the speed limit and also of those exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 km/h. (TRRL)
