A BRIDGE DESIGNER'S VIEW OF LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE

Some applications of the use of lightweight concrete (lwc) in bridge deck design are briefly discussed. Benefits of reduced loading on the substructure, increased flexibility in absorbing strains and improved thermal properties minimising the effects of differential temperatures are considered in conjunction with the disadvantages of lower shear strength and low bond strength.
