EXPERIMENTS WITH BREATH TEST EQUIPMENT BY THE POLICE IN FRIESLAND

PROEFNEMING MET ADEMANALYSE-APPARATUUR DOOR DE POLITIE IN FRIESLAND

To prepare the alteration of the law which will introduce breath test equipment as a legal substitute for the blood test a comparative survey was carried out. The results of standard breath tests (0,8 pro mille), the new intoxilyzer and the conventional blood tests were compared. The outcome shows that when relying entirely on the intoxilyzer instead of a blood test, no intoxilyzer test would have shown penal pro mille contents of alcohol incorrectly (no "false positives"). On the other hand some persons would unjustly have been cleared of drunk driving ("false negatives"). (TRRL)
