GROUND COVERS FOR LOUISIANA HIGHWAYS

More than 200 different plants were investigated during 8 years for their adaptability; hardiness; propagation; maintenance; and general suitability for use as ground covers on slopes, medians, and flat areas along highways in Louisiana. Eight different plantings were made. Ratings for overall appearance, weed presence, and establishment over a 13-month period indicated that the liriope rated highest by far. Lonicera japonica 'Pupurea', Trachelospermum asiaticum, and Wedelia trilobata also rated high.
