The aim of the study was to analyze the regional distribution of drunken driving in Finland and to describe the background factors influencing the regional numbers of drunken driving in certain areas. The socioecology of drunken driving was studied by the theoretical model consisting of labour division, social pressure to conformative behaviour, normative integration and their relationships. The operational measures of labour division were the amount of alcohol and traffic services, indicators of social pressure to conformative behaviour were activity to participate in parish events and in elections, the unity of commune delegation. Normative integration were defined by drunken driving and other indicators of deviant behaviour like the amount of crimes particularly associated with alcohol abuse and variables connected with illness behaviour.
