CHEMICAL STABILISATION OF SAND : PART V. GUAR GUM AS DUNE SAND STABILISER

Comparative studies on use of some natural resins as dune sand stabilisers are presented. The maximum unconfined compression strength of 155 kg/sq.cm of the standard specimen, made by a novel technique using guar gum (1.5%) and desert sand (98.5%) has been obtained. The increase in strength from 40 to 155 kg/sq.cm recorded at densities varying from 1.60 to 1.70 gm/cu.cm is much higher than the maximum strength of 1.01 kg/sq.cm at density of 1.60 gm/cu.cm reported by earlier workers. Guar gum, a product of Indian desert, appears promising for short duration field applications and in exigencies. (Author/TRRL)
