Use of a repaver unit on a highway repair contract in Kuwait has reduced the working time from an estimated year to just 25 days. The project involved removing the surface down to subgrade level on one of Kuwait's busiest dual carriageways. The repaver has cut down the working time considerably, removing and repaving up to 1200 meters of pavement, 3.75 meters wide, in an eight-hour shift. The preheater unit of the machine heats the wearing course to 120 degrees Centrigrade up to a depth of 50 millimeters. Following the preheater unit, the repaver scarifies the material to the required depth and then levels the surface with a levelling blade. The scarifier acts like a giant comb, with five rows of carbide tipped teeth which can be raised or lowered to avoid damage to drains, grantings, or other fixtures in the pavement surface. The new asphalt mixture, delivered to the site from a central batch plant, is then laid on top of the levelled wearing course, and compacted.
