IDENTIFICATION AND METHOD OF TREATMENT OF SOME ACCIDENT PROBLEM SITES IN GREATER MANCHESTER

Greater Manchester presently has an annual road accident record of approximately 11000 injury accidents. Part 1 of this paper gives details of the manner in which the computerised accident records system is used to define the locations of accident danger spots throughout the county. These are locations at which annually five or more injury accidents occur, or twelve or more injury accidents in a three year period. Part 2 discusses some of the treatments which have been applied to a number of accident sites within the county since 1980. For the covering abstract of the symposium see TRIS No. 394672. (TRRL)
