THE HUMAN FACTOR IN ROAD SAFETY

Following the brief remark that vehicles should be in a state of good repair, this paper focuses on the human factors in accident causation. Topics covered include perception (awareness), comprehension, decision-making and action. Other factors which might be considered part of the "human element" related to road safety are also discussed, including physical or physiological failure, experience and training, interfering stimuli or preoccupation, and attitudinal and personality factors.
