USE OF CENSUS DATA IN TRANSPORTATION PLANNING

Transportation and planning studies are shifting the emphasis from data collection and planning techniques to plan analysis and related social issues. This report indicates the ways in which the transportation planning professional may use the census data, how to obtain census data, and the experience of others in the use of this data. Existing data bases can be supplemented and even updated and travel models validated. Use of census data in producing a multi-modal transportation plan for the Wilmington region and in reviewing the Erie Area Transportation and Land Use Plan are described.
