MODIFICATION IN PLACE OF DWELLING AND WORK IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE RANDSTAD

Modification in the place of dwelling is often dependent on the place of work, the different transport modes for the journey to work, the journey time and the costs. The question of whether there is a relationship between a change in working and a change in dwelling is studied. In particular the authors study how far an increase in the costs for the journey to work caused by a change in job as a stimulus for changing home differs from the influence of other possible stimuli to move house. The effect of changes in dwelling and working place on the transport mode are also studied. A theoretical model is presented to forecast the environmental selection behaviour of working people. The set-up of the data bank used is presented. The causal relationship between removal and change in work, the reaction time and the role of the distance between place of work and dwelling is also presented. (TRRL)
