ANTI-SPRAY GUIDE

This guide has been prepared to help transport engineers understand clearly what the law requires. It explains the meaning of the regulations and outlines what the British Standard BS au 200 stipulates as regards mudgurading. It also advises on how to be more sure of minimising spray - going beyong the minimum legal requirements. As explained in this guide, it is newly built vehicles that are mainly affected: trailers over 3.5 tonnes gross from 1 May 1985; trucks over 12 tonnes gross from 1 October 1985. Of existing equipment, only trailers with two or more axles and above 16 tonnes gross are affected. It is cheaper (by concession of the law) to act quickly. Otherwise it is necessary to fit spray shielding that conforms fully, instead of mostly, to the British Standard -though one has until Octobr 1986 to do it. (TRRL)
