LOOKING BACKWARDS. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A WARNING SIGNAL ON REVERSING LORRIES

BLIK ACHTERUIT: ADVIES OVER EEN TE PLAATSEN WAARSCHUWINGSSIGNAAL OP ACHTERUIT RIJDENDE VRACHTWAGENS

The idea of a warning signal for lorries driving backwards is not new. In the nineteen-seventies the problem was also studied using an acoustic signal. The mandatory use of such a signal was not introduced because alternatives were not studied. Today new developments, in particular in electronics, have taken place and also the economic aspects play a minor role. Warning equipments now available are: an acoustic signal in combination with or without a light signal; a sensor or sonar system, and television equipment. The introduction of the mandatory use of such a system for lorries, delivery vans and buses is strongly advised. (TRRL) (TRRL)
