LOCAL TRANSPORT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. REPORT OF A STUDY GROUP

The report, which briefly evaluates the problems of transport for the disabled, was based on the following terms of reference: 1) to consider a definition of disability in the transport context; 2) to attempt to establish the size of the problem; 3) to consider the difficulties encountered by disabled persons when using transport facilities; 4) to gather details of measures being pursued by transport operators to assist the disabled traveller; 5) to examine the role of district councils and the voluntary sector in assisting the disabled, and also to assess the potential for greater co-ordination; 6) to make recommendations for the improvement of facilities and vehicle specifications for disabled persons using public transport.
