TUNNEL DESIGN BASED ON ROCK CLASSIFICATION

KLASIFIKACIJA STIJENSKIH MASA KAO OSNOVA ZA PROJEKTIRANJE TUNELA

The paper presents a rock classification for determining rock quality during tunnelling and timbering. Among the existing classifications according to Terzaghi (1946), Lauffer (1958), Deere (1983), the RSR concept according to Wickham, Tiedemann and Skinner (1972), the geomechanical classification according to Bieniawski 1973) and the Q system according to Barton, Lien and Lunde (1974) are differentiated. The last two classifications with simple examples are presented in detail. The comparison of the RSR concept, geomechanical classification and the G system shows disparity in results due to untimbered span and the stability time. It is suggested that an analysis based on more classifications be carried out. (TRRL)
