TEST PAVEMENT IN NURMIJARVI, 1979-1983

NURMIJARVEN PAALLYSTEKOETIE, V. 1979-1983

The wear and deformation of test pavements in Nurmijarvi have up to the spring 1981 been measured with the stratotest-apparatus and profilometer and since the spring 1981 with thickness profilometer. The depth of the vehicle ruts was measured also with a 2 m straightedge. Once a year the evenness and friction were measured and damage charted. Where the binder quality of the asphalt concrete was changed the harder bitumen (b-65) was more worn than the softer bitumen (b-120 and b-250). Also, the use of Soviet bitumen as binder in asphaltic concrete had increased wear compared with bitumen from Saudi Arabia. When hydrated lime was used as filler in asphaltic concrete the wear diminished compared with the reference material. Also, the steel slag pavement was less worn than the reference pavement. (TRRL)
