NEW METHODS, IDEAS MARK ROAD HISTORY

The development of the highway in this country has resulted from a pressing demand for better and cheaper transportation. The improvement in methods, materials, and equipment is the result of scientific research and field experience. Increased production, improvement in quality, and lowered costs have developed. Financing of highways has changed radically since the advent of the automobile. The popular shifting of the tax burden from the landowner to the user of the highway has relieved the local taxpayer of financing through-highways and has resulted in making huge sums of money available for development of these systems.
