GAS PRESSURE WELDING OF HEAD HARDENED RAIL - THE DEVELOPMENT OF POSTWELDING HEAT TREATMENT METHOD

The paper discusses the development of a postwelding heat treatment method for gas pressure weld of head hardened rail. Heat treatment can be put in operation, as a series of welding procedures, by reheating and air cooling of rail head. The length of heat treated zone is 150 mm, and the length of circumferential softening zones resulting from heat treatment is about 10 mm on running surface. It is considered that there will be little local wear of welds in such a narrow softening zone.
