STATE OF THE ART OF PIPE JACKING METHOD AND ITS FUTURE

Pipe jacking was initiated in USA in 1896, and today it is a popular method of tunnel construction in many places throughout the world. The characteristics of this method are that it does not interrupt traffic on the ground surface and it does not cause public nuisance due to noise. There are, however, two major problems connected with the technique, which are estimating thrust and controlling alignment. This paper discusses the problems and explains their countermeasures.
