TORSION IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS CONTAINING STEEL FIERES

Torsion test results on 43 plain and prestressed beams, reinforced with steel fibres are presented and discussed; of these, nine were made of concrete and the remainder with mortar (i.e. without any coarse aggregate). The parameters varied were the fibre content, concrete strength and the type and extent of prestressing. Methods of predicting the cracking torque and the ultimate torque from a knowledge of the fibre properties, the cube strength and the applied prestress are suggested. The predictions obtained by the proposed methods are shown to be satisfactory by comparing them with the experimentally observed torques. (Author/TRRL)
