VIBRATION MEASUREMENTS ON THREE TANKERS: SUMMARY OF RESULTS
Vibration measurements have been accomplished on three tankers, (130,000 tdw-228,000 tdw). Not only frequencies have been registered but also amplitudes. Some investigations concerning thrust bearing, steering gear flat and OT bulkhead are included but the main interest is shown the bottomframes. Good agreement between calculated and measured basic frequencies have been obtained while the discrepancies are larger for the higher mode frequences. The amplitudes, which had been a controversial question were found to be small. A distinct tendency for the amplitude to decrease with increased distance from the engine room was observed. However, in one case the amplitude increased again towards tank 1. This may have been caused by local effects.
