CYCLIC LOADING OF LARGE TIMBER TEE JOINTS INCORPORATING NAILED STEEL SIDE PLATES

Cyclic axial tension/compression tests on small nailplate joints were performed to determine the relationship between nail shear load and relative deflection between nailplate and timber. Three large beam/column "t" joints were then cyclically tested under various moment/shear ratios and the measured results compared with predictions from the small sample testing. A modified nailplate joint incorporating an energy absorbing and moment limiting joining plate, and an epoxy-resin repaired joint were also tested. (Author/TRRL)
