CO-ORDINATED TESTING OF FILLET WELDS - PART 2 - WERNER SPECIMEN - AWRA REPORT P6-40-83, AWRA CONTRACT 94

The tests of Werner specimens in which the welds are stressed longitudinally confirm the results from the tests on cruciform specimens on weld size effect. On the other hand, the load-deformation curves from these tests show that small welds have less ductility than big welds and flux-cored arc welds (FCAW) have more ductility than submerged arc welds (SAW). These findings are in conflict with those from the cruciform series. The full series of tests has produced valuable information both on weld size effect and load-deformation relation. The experimental data will provide the basis for the assessment of the reliability of the ultimate strength design method. (Author/TRRL)
