This article describes the new Buick distributorless ignition system. Instead of a conventional ignition distributor, the new Buick 3.8-liter V6 turbocharged engine is equipped with a no-moving-parts electronic module with a trio of ignition coils built into the top. It substitutes microchips and resistors for complex mechanical and vacuum systems. This article includes a description of how it works, and the types of failure which one might encounter.
